The welfare of farmers and fishermen is our top priority. We must therefore improve their productivity, use an environment-friendly technology, increase real income and uplift the quality of their lives consistent with the principle of equitable development.
• The City Agriculture Office core function is to provide technical assistance and support in carrying out measures to ensure the delivery of basic services and provision of adequate facilities relative to agricultural services; develop plans and strategies and, implement the same particularly those which have to do with the agricultural programs and projects which the City Mayor is empowered to implement such as; Expansion and Revitalization of productivity programs, Quick-response/intervention to calamity and disaster situations, Irrigation Rehabilitation and Construction, Development of Farm-to-market Roads and Related Infrastructures, Rural Finance, Food price Stabilization, private Sector participation and Empowerment of Farmers and Fisher folks, and massive Extension, Education and Training.
• It shall perform other functions as provided for under Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, and those that are prescribed by law or ordinance.
Programs and Projects
(KAsama..ANI sa Barangay)
The program aims to provide additional income and food security for low –income families of the city, promoting organic agriculture by converting vacant lots previously used as garbage dumpsite into communal vegetable garden.
FARMERS’ FIELD SCHOOL
Farmers Field School is a non-formal experimental participatory approach of learning to develop the knowledge and ability of farmers to modern technologies.
GULAYAN SA PAARALAN
The program aims to educate the students of the importance and benefits of cultivating land for planting and eating nutritious fruits and vegetables.
BUTIL NG KAALAMAN
The ButilngKaalaman Para Sa Kabataan Program is a new way of bringing the learning foundation closer to students from which they can learn the proper way of growing rice and vegetables from the actual situation on the field with the guidance of the city’s Agricultural Extension Workers.
TECHNO PINOY CENTER
(Farmers and Fisherfolks Information and Technology Services Center)
Techno Pinoy Center provide easy access to modern information and technological advancement from productions to marketing scheme strategy. The FITS center is a mini library with internet connection wherein farmers, fishermen, out of school youth, women sector and students can do their research study on how to increase the yeilds on palay and other crops.
SKILLS TRAINING / COOKING DEMO
This program aims to provide alternative source of income for non-working mothers and out of school youth and various sectors of the community.
PANGKABUHAYANG PROYEKTO PARA SA BALANGUEÑO
The program aimed to support low-income families, organized groups and individuals by providing livelihood/ initial capital in form of soft loan without interest and collateral.
CITY ORGANIC FARM
The City Organic Farm was established and managed by the City Agriculture Office to ensure sustainable supply of organically grown agricultural commodities at the City Organic Trading Post.
CITY ORGANIC TRADING POST
Is the marketing venue for a reliable source of organically grown commodities produced by the local farmers not only in balanga but in the whole province of Bataan.
BARANGAY FOOD TERMINAL
Barangay Food Terminal is an alternative market for the various freshly harvested agricultural produce from the locality
BINHIAN NG BAYAN
The program aimed to proffer adequate assistance to the city farmers by providing sustainable rice seeds for agricultural production and seed subsidy with 50-50 scheme.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY – BASED FARM ON MANGO PRODUCTION
A tie-up project with BPSU funded by CLARRDEC. Application of new technologies in mango production that includes bagging, integrated pest and disease management, sanitary pruning, and systematic fertilizer application.
COCOMAT WEAVING & COMPOSTING
The Cocomat Weaving and Composting Project is under the “Trash to Cash” Program of the City Agriculture Office. This aimed to provide additional livelihood for low-income families of the city and promote awareness on organic farming and environmental protection.
Tilapia and Milk Fish Fingerlings are provided to fish-pond operators and schools for free. This is a tie-up project with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources(BFAR) and theProvincial Government.
Promotes mangrove-friendly aquaculture that will generate livelihood for fisherfolks and maximize utilization of mangrove resources without harming mangrove ecosystem.
COMMUNITY-BASED PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH
A soft loan assistance given to fisherfolks to alleviate poverty and help attain food security through environment-friendly fishing livelihood.
